Community Support Unit was established in 2001 by John Arkley as a security service to the farming community in Ixopo, Highflats, Umzimkulu, Creighton, Donnybrook and the surrounding areas.
Starting with 1 vehicle and limited capital the company has grown substantially. John Arkley was joined 2 years ago by his son James who had spent time in the UK.
The organization now supplies security solutions to many blue chip companies in KZN and the Eastern Cape.
Community Support Unit subscribes to the principles of the Empowerment Act and together with all our associate companies is 100% BEE compliant. Two of the senior members of the Company Bernard MBELU and Isaac NCGOBO are major shareholders in J.P.I. Security an Associate Company who supply Guards and Security Solutions to various Government Departments.
The majority of our Community Support Officers, Controllers and Inspectors are drawn from the local communities and offer sustainable job opportunities in areas which are currently experiencing 80% unemployment.
Our employees’ training is specific to the Industries for which we render the service. For example our rural employees are trained in basic Animal Husbandry and Environmental Awareness.
All Community Support Unit officers are registered with the Private Security Regulatory Authority.
We are a “Proudly South African” Company and have been since the schemes inception. We are accredited by SASSETA to offer courses, via our various Training Facilities, including the new GENERAL SECURITY OFFICER NQF 3 Level (soon to be the Industry’s standard qualification) and Firearm Relicencing. We have our own Assessors and Moderators to speed up the various processes.
Community Support Unit has now moved their corporate offices to a purpose built site in Tweni Waterfront at Umtentweni.
The offices will not only house the administration and management staff but will include a fully functional training facility.
We have recently completed our first of several proposed bush-training camps in the Natal Midlands to offer Outdoor Adventure, Team Building and Paint Ball Courses to both overseas and local Organizations.
Our ongoing employee training, which requires patience, good leadership, and professional management skills and good resources, ensure a dedicated and committed workforce working towards a common goal.
