African Dive Adventures is an all-round Scuba Diving Operator offering a range of services. African Dive Adventures pioneered shark diving on Protea Banks and remain the only successful dive operation. They invite you to come and experience the thrill of diving with wild sharks in their natural environment. Their attention to safety, and the protection of the natural reef are top priorities for this team. Sharks are not baited. Small groups of divers are taken on a drift dive with sharks.

Nearly every book on world dive sites features Protea Banks. The reef is situated 8 km offshore from Shelly Beach, which is in turn 160km south of Durban. We dive to approximately 30m-35m depth and encounter the following sharks during different seasons of the year:

• Zambezi Shark (Bull Shark) Oct - May
• Hammerhead Shark Nov - May
• Black Tip Shark Oct - May
• Giant Guitar Shark Dec - May
• Tiger Shark Oct - Jun
• Ragged Tooth Shark Jun - Nov
• Great White Shark (seldom but anytime)

Beside the different species of sharks, we also encounter skates, rays, morays, turtles, etc.:

• Spotted Eagle Ray
• Manta Ray
• Devil Ray
• Whale Shark
• Bass
• Barracuda
• Tuna and many more.
